Some congressional races in New York’s Hudson Valley ended up closer than predicted and while the incumbents have declared victory, their opponents have not conceded.

Rep. Delgado Holds Town Hall in Dutchess

A New York congressman held a town hall Friday night in Dutchess County as President Trump was signing a bill to reopen the government for three weeks. Agreement to temporarily end the record-long shutdown came without money for a border wall.

On the first day of the new Congress, activist groups in New York’s 19th congressional district will hold a rally to reform democracy. It comes as the House is expected to vote on a funding bill to end the partial federal government shutdown.

The Ulster County Chamber of Commerce hosted a congressional candidate debate Thursday morning in Kingston. Four candidates for New York’s 19th District took turns answering questions on issues ranging from health care to small business to climate change.

First-term Republican Congressman John Faso holds a slim lead in New York’s 19th Congressional district, according to a Siena College/Spectrum poll released Thursday night.

So far, six Democrats want the chance to unseat freshman New York Republican Congressman John Faso of the 19th District. One is 35-year-old Ulster County resident Patrick Ryan, a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point who served as an Army officer in Iraq. This is the first of WAMC’s Hudson Valley Bureau Chief Allison Dunne’s interviews with the candidates.
