After a years-long push, the cottage where former U.S. President and Union general Ulysses S. Grant spent the last days of his life has been placed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Amsterdam Free Library, which is more than a century old, has been nominated for a spot on the National and New York State Registers of Historic Places, as officials at the library are envisioning what the building could look like in the future.

A portion of a Sullivan County village could soon be on the National Register of Historic Places, and that, say county officials, could help with downtown revitalization.
