Outgoing NYS Senator Jen Metzger Reflects On Her Term

As the year comes to a close, changes are in store in the New York state legislature. In the 42nd Senate district, first-term Democrat Jen Metzger lost her bid for re-election as the seat reverted to Republican hands. She says she got a lot done in two years and found the work gratifying. Metzger spoke with WAMC’s Hudson Valley Bureau Chief Allison Dunne about her term and what lies ahead.

Martucci, Harckham Win Their NYS Senate Races

Two tight and contentious New York state Senate races have been decided — one in favor of the incumbent Democrat; the other for the Republican challenger. The New York Civil Liberties Union was seeking intervenor status in the latter until the race was decided. Still, the NYCLU says the issue in the race is a broader one that needs attention.

A number of New York state Senate races in the Hudson Valley have not been decided. It could be weeks before constituents know who will represent them next year.

A first-term New York state Senator and her Republican opponent took part in an Orange County Citizens Foundation debate Monday. Democrat Jen Metzger is seeking re-election in the 42nd District, which had been in Republican hands for years before John Bonacic did not seek re-election in 2018.
