A second man has admitted guilt in the murder of a man in Mechanicville.

The City of Mechanicville in Saratoga County will hire a lawyer to investigate complaints from city workers against its mayor.

The victim has been identified as 42-year-old James Pelton. Police said Pelton was from Poughkeepsie and an employee at GlobalFoundries. Our original story is below.

A freight train struck and killed a pedestrian early Wednesday morning in the Southern Saratoga County city of Mechanicville, a hub for rail traffic in the region.

Businesses in southern Saratoga County are blaming confusing signage around a public works project for a negative effect on their bottom lines.

New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli recently released a report detailing the most fiscally stressed communities in the state, and one city in Saratoga County is near the top of the list.

In late September, the comptroller’s office released a report developed through DiNapoli’s Fiscal Stress Monitoring System, showing about three dozen municipalities in New York are fiscally stressed.

A version of the report was also released last year. This year’s made determinations based on the 2013 fiscal year.

Local officials gathered with advocates for families of missing children to mark the launch of a new program to help find Capital Region missing persons.

At the DeCrescente Distributing Company in Mechanicville, Capital District Republican Assemblyman James Tedisco, Saratoga County District Attorney James Murphy, and others announced “Coasters for Hope,” a new pilot program to help find missing persons in the Capital Region.
