Our tech-guru Jesse Feiler joins us to discuss current trends in tech. This morning we talk about customer success. A topic so nuanced – you may need an “at home advisor.”

Jesse Feiler writes and publishes books and apps about the theater (particularly about Uta Hagen and Herbert Berghof), technology (often from Apple), and community development (such as the annual Jane's Walks sponsored by Friends of Saranac River Trail.

Our tech-guru Jesse Feiler joins us to discuss current trends in tech. This morning we talk about a new digital divide: what it is, what it's all about, and how it affects you and the web.

Our tech-guru Jesse Feiler is an author and developer who focuses on small business and nonprofits along with iOS technologies. He has recently added book publisher to his roles: his Champlain Arts business has published apps for a number of years, and has recently added books. Uta Hagen’s memoir "Sources" is back in print through ChamplainArts.com.

Tech aside this morning, Jesse is here to tell us about a two night event next week at SUNY Plattsburgh entitled: "The Artistry and Politics of Uta Hagen - A Centennial Celebration of Her Life."

Uta Hagen was a renowned American actress and teacher. Her Broadway career began in 1938 and spanned more than six decades, garnering her three Tony Awards. In 1947, she began teaching acting at HB Studio in Greenwich Village. She established herself as one of the most influential acting teachers of the 20th century. Her acting books, "Respect for Acting" (1973) and "A Challenge for the Actor" (1991), are considered two of the most important acting books of the 20th century.

Jesse joins us along with Ted Brunetti - producer, director, acting coach, teacher, and actor. Ted created the role of “Frankie Coffee Cake” in the Broadway Production of “A Bronx Tale: The Musical.” He was a long-time colleague and protégé of Uta Hagen.

Another month, another security breach and privacy is back in the news. Our tech-guru Jesse Feiler joins us to discuss a proposed Nation-wide Privacy Act.

California Consumer Privacy Act goes into effect January 1, 2020, and the General Data Protection Regulation in the EU is already in effect. Joe and Jesse discuss some of the issues including the good/bad/terrific/evil (take your pick) idea of having a nation-wide privacy act in the US.

Jesse Feiler - Emojis

Jul 23, 2019

World Emoji Day was last week. We didn’t want it to go by with notice. However, the day is much bigger than just your favorite emoji. World Emoji Day is a celebration of all emojis. So, we will talk about the power of emojis with our tech guru, Jesse Feiler.

Jesse Feiler helps people and organizations get to know and use new technologies. Projects have included building the page caching module for the Prodigy Web Browser for Mac in the very early days of the Web, location-based apps for iPhone and iOS, as well as books and classes on new technologies. His latest book is “Implementing iOS and macOS Documents with the Files App: Managing Files and ensuring compatibility.”

Jesse Feiler joins us this morning to talk about changing and updating devices and acquiring the correct devices for your tasks.

We’re managing more data than ever before and moving it around all the time. We need lots of compatible apps and data formats. The more flexible your tools, the more you can do with limited hardware resources.

Jesse joins us to talk about the self-publishing world today. Authors are taking publishing into their own hands using the self-publishing tools we now have. And (surprise, surprise!) this is what authors have been doing for a long, long time but the technology is changing.

Jesse Feiler is a developer, consultant, and author specializing in Apple technologies. He is the creator of Minutes Machine for iPad, the meeting management app, Saranac River Trail app a guide to the Trail that includes location-based updates as well as social media tools. As a consultant; he has worked with small businesses and nonprofits on projects such as fine arts, production control, and publishing.

You use software nearly every instant you’re awake. It powers everything from social media, video games, and email to credit card fraud monitoring, smart home systems, and the brakes in your car. All of this software is written by computer programmers, and through their work, coders have become the most quietly influential people on the planet. If we want to understand how today’s world works, we ought to understand something about these digital architects.

In "Coders: The Making of a New Tribe and the Remaking of the World," tech journalist Clive Thompson draws on his access to today’s tech world to dive into the enigmatic world of coding and examine the consequences of the “programmer mentality.”

To join in on the conversation, we welcome our tech guru, app developer and author Jesse Feiler.

Our tech guru Jesse Feiler joins us this morning as we discuss tech jobs.

With a great deal of to-do, Amazon looked for a new headquarters to add to its home base in Seattle. They wound up selecting northern Virginia and Long Island City, but soon after the selection of Long Island City, Amazon decided not to pursue it. Much was made of the loss of potentially 25-40,000 jobs.

What were these job and the other jobs that the new corporations offer to communities? Rather than think of the raw numbers of jobs (sometimes classified as "well-paying jobs"), Jesse looks at the jobs that these companies are trying to fill.

Our tech guru Jesse Feiler joins us this morning as we discuss the power and entertainment value of gaming versus streaming services. Brian Fung wrote in the Washington Post on January 18 that "Netflix: Fortnite is a bigger rival than HBO."

That got Joe and Jesse thinking and today they talk about the various ways in which people spend time with games, books, and other diversions, and what it means for everyone from readers and players to authors and creators.
