The acting head of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has been paying close attention to our region of late. Met by protestors, Matthew Albence was in Troy on February 20, where he and several law enforcement officers criticized New York state’s Green Light Law, which permits undocumented immigrants to apply for a driver’s license. WAMC News spoke with Albence Friday morning.

The acting head of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement made a stop in the Capital Region today to take a stand against a New York law that prevents immigration officers from accessing state motor vehicle information. New York Governor Andrew Cuomo dismissed the press conference as political theater.

The Burlington City Council had a number of items on its agenda Tuesday evening that kept it working into the early morning hours.  But a resolution that will not be considered for another two weeks brought protesters to the council chambers and led to more than an hour of public comment.

A data center operated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Williston, Vermont will be the focus of a protest march this weekend.

The Trump Administration is planning a nationwide immigration enforcement action this weekend. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids will target migrant families in 10 major cities, raising concerns among immigrant-rights advocates across our region.

The Ulster County executive signed an executive order Wednesday concerning cooperation with federal immigration officials. The order was prompted, in part, by planned deportation raids by ICE.

A local chef taken into custody last month by Immigration and Customs Enforcement was welcomed back home Wednesday in Albany.

A local chef taken into custody last month by Immigration and Customs Enforcement has been released and is headed back to Albany. 

This year marks the 30th Annual Ice Harvest Festival at Hanford Mills Museum in East Meredith, New York. 

Using historic tools, children and adults can walk out on the frozen mill pond to cut and maneuver blocks of ice. The ice blocks are pushed up a ramp and then loaded onto sleds, which are hauled to a traditional ice house.

Ice harvesting will take place all day on Saturday, February 2 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and visitors also can take part in a variety of indoor and outdoor activities.

The employers of an Orange County resident say he has been detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. They’ve been collecting letters on the immigrant’s behalf. And they are calling on elected officials to allow undocumented immigrants who are hard-working and law-abiding to remain in the country.

New York's governor is threatening to sue federal immigration officials following a raid on an upstate dairy farm that he says was illegal.

A central New York dairy farmer says seven federal immigration officers came onto his property without permission, arrested a Guatemalan worker without producing a warrant and handcuffed the farmer when he video-recorded their actions.

Members of the Saratoga Springs faith community are seeking to provide sanctuary to undocumented immigrants. Their announcement comes just after federal immigration officials arrested 16 people in the Spa City.

Marchers in Burlington demonstrated against the White House’s immigration policies during a May Day March for Dignity yesterday.  The protesters gathered at the Federal Building.

As some communities in the region establish themselves as “Sanctuary Cities,” Schenectady appears to be distancing itself from the label as it considers its options. The Schenectady city council has been discussing immigration, a hot topic that has drawn dozens of residents at recent meetings.
