  The Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center in Great Barrington, MA is marking its 10th anniversary season with performances by, among others, Graham Nash, Art Garfunkel, Audra McDonald, Don McLean and many, many others.

The Castle Street theatre came alive 10 seasons ago and now Mahaiwe Executive Director Beryl Jolly says they are ready for the next phase in the theatre’s development.

Three years ago the Mahaiwe’s Board of Director’s set a goal of raising $2.2 million to stabilize the Mahaiwe to the next level of programming excellence and financial stability as part of their Impact campaign. Since then they have raised $1.9 million towards that goal. With just $250,000 to go, they are turning to their loyal audience to help complete the historic campaign.

A proposal to restructure Great Barrington’s tax system is being criticized as prohibitive to businesses and second home owners, but the man behind the idea says it’s about economic fairness.

  The BIFF is back! The Berkshire International Film Festival is celebrating 10 years at the end of this month. The BIFF is a world-class festival that is an integral part of the cultural fabric of the Berkshires.

The festival runs Thursday, May 28th through Sunday, May 31st in Great Barrington and Pittsfield, Massachusetts with screenings at The Triplex, The Mahaiwe, and The Beacon.

    Once a seasonally vibrant site for agriculture, concerts, horse racing and other dynamic community events, the Great Barrington Fairgrounds site has sat dormant for the majority the past 35 years.

In December 2012, the 57-acre property was purchased by Sheffield couple, Bart and Janet Elsbach. Now a volunteer-driven, not-for-profit organization, the mission of GBFG is to preserve and restore the environmental health of the Fairgrounds site and to provide agricultural, educational, recreational and other beneficial opportunities to the local community and to visitors. Great Barrington Fairgrounds will present a banquet “barn-raising” brunch on Sunday, September 21st at 12:00pm at Gedney Farm in New Marlborough, Mass.

    This Sunday, April 27th at 4pm - jazz pianist Armen Donelian will perform works from his new CD: Sayat-Nova: Songs Of My Ancestors in a CD release gathering at Castle Street Cafe in Great Barrington, MA in association with Berkshires Jazz.

The legendary Hudson Valley pianist will perform in a trio with Dave Clark on bass and George Schuller on drums.

Great Barrington was the hometown of the late author and civil rights leader and founder of the NAACP. He died nearly 50 years ago.

A parcel of land and home located along route 23 in Great Barrington that was given to WEB Dubois as a gift was bulldozed in the mid-50’s. In the 1960’s, the acreage where the homestead sat changed hands. Currently, UMass Amherst owns the homesite.

The Friends of the Du Bois Home site are planning to include the 5-acre plot Great Barrington and three other locations a national historic site.
