The Burlington, Vermont City Council met this week and approved several routine ordinance changes. Councilors also heard an update on police transformation initiatives and discussed what to do about graffiti in the city center.

A New York state lawmaker says a utility provider in the Hudson Valley has committed to removing graffiti in a city in Orange County.

Vermont residents have donated up to $1,000 as a reward for information regarding a series of racist graffiti spray-painted in Bennington.

The Orange County district attorney says a teen has been indicted in a case involving spray-painting of anti-Semitic graffiti at a Jewish cemetery in Warwick.

Pittsfield Police are investigating whether a hate crime occurred when someone spray-painted swastikas and other graffiti on a city family's home.

Richard Rodriguez says two swastikas, what appeared to be gallows and other offensive symbols were drawn on visible sections of his vinyl-sided residence overnight on Feb. 2.

The Great American Clean Up, the nation’s largest community improvement project, is taking place today  in several places, including Springfield Massachusetts. Hundreds of volunteers will pick up trash and small debris in parks, school yards and other public ways.  One of the organizers is Mike Cass, an employee in the city’s Office of Housing. His specialty is graffiti removal. Cass is so good at it that his official business card identifies him as “The Eraser.”   Cass spoke with WAMC’s Paul Tuthill.

A decades-old problem that plagues large cities is about to meet a new, digital foe.

The city of Albany is turning to smartphone technology in the fight against urban blight: Mayor Jerry Jennings announced the activation of The Graffiti Buster.   The free app was about a year in the making, the brainchild of Tim Varney, a partner at Troy Web Consulting. Albany's Department of General Services cleans up hundreds of incidents of graffiti every year.
