Whoopi Goldberg is one of a very elite group of artists who have won the Grammy, the Academy Award, the Golden Globe, the Emmy and a Tony. She is also a prolific producer and is well-known around the world for her many humanitarian endeavors. Born and raised in New York City, she performed in San Diego and the Bay Area with the Blake Street Hawkeyes theatre troupe. It was there that she created the characters which became “The Spook Show” and evolved into her hit Broadway show, Grammy Award-winning album and the HBO special that helped launch her career.

Whoopi Goldberg will perform at The Mahaiwe's 2018 Gala on Sunday, July 29.

Award winning stage and screen actress Mary-Louise Parker’s new book - Dear Mr. You – shows the singular arc of her life through letters composed to the men, real and hypothetical, who have informed the person she is today.

Beginning with the grandfather she never knew, the letters range from a missive to the beloved priest from her childhood to remembrances of former lovers.

Joe Donahue will interview legendary actress and Academy Award-winner Sophia Loren on stage at Proctors in Schenectady, NY on Sunday, March 13 at 3pm.

Sophia Loren became known for her striking beauty and dramatic roles with famed costars Cary Grant, Frank Sinatra, Marlon Brando, Gregory Peck, Jack Lemmon, and Paul Newman. The luminous Italian movie star has earned a remarkable array of notable accolades, including the first Academy Award presented for a foreign-language role with Two Women.

She has earned a record six David Di Donatello Awards for Best Actress, a GRAMMY Award and five special Golden Globe Awards, as well as the Honorary Academy Award in 1991 in acknowledgement of her indelible contributions to world cinema. In 1995, she received the Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement.

I make it a tradition to watch televised awards shows like the Oscars, Emmys, and Grammys. This is not because I particularly care about the entertainment industry, but primarily because I enjoy providing a running commentary of snarky comments about the various nominee's clothes, styling and speeches on Facebook and other social media outlets.
