A long-awaited air quality study of Albany's South End neighborhood has been released. Officials say new city and state-led actions will help address air pollution in the area.

State officials are about to reveal the long-awaited results of an air monitoring study in Albany's South End.

A rail disaster in Quebec in 2013 touched off international concern about the safety of so-called "oil trains" that haul crude from oil fields to refineries and ports across North America, including Albany.  A Canadian author and a local activist say that while the media attention has waned, the danger is as great as ever.

Some new faces have been changing city politics in Albany, once famous for machine rule. One example is Common Councilor Dorcey Applyrs, who was a political newcomer when she ran for the council in 2013. She recently sat down with WAMC’s Capital Region Bureau Chief Dave Lucas.
