Cuomo Manages Controversies In Final Days Campaign

New York Governor Cuomo had been gaining momentum in the days leading up Thursday’s Democratic primary for governor, but two controversial incidents over the weekend could set the governor back in his race against challenger Cynthia Nixon.

After a delay, the eastbound span of the 3.1-mile Mario Cuomo Bridge is set to open Tuesday night, weather permitting. This comes after a setback Friday, hours after New York Governor Andrew Cuomo held a grand opening ceremony for the span’s public debut. Cuomo’s gubernatorial opponents are calling for outside investigations into the timing of it all.

The end of August used to be considered a slow season in politics, but television ads released by New Tork Governor Andrew Cuomo, and his Republican challenger Marc Molinaro, are getting heated. Molinaro says Cuomo insulted his pregnant wife while the governor’s campaign tried to bar the GOP candidate’s spot on state corruption from airing on television stations.

Andrew Cuomo has two main challengers in the New York gubernatorial race, Cynthia Nixon on the left and Marc Molinaro on the right. Surprisingly the two agree on a number of key items as they make their case against the incumbent governor, including a laser -like focus on the incumbent governor’s perceived weaknesses. 

Hudson Valley Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney urged Cynthia Nixon not to run for governor before the “Sex and the City” star launched her campaign. Now that Nixon has made it official, Maloney — a Democrat from the 18th district — is coming to the aid of second-term Governor Andrew Cuomo. Speaking on WAMC’s Congressional Corner today, Maloney credited Cuomo for pushing through same-sex marriage in 2011, among other issues.

Challengers to New York Governor Andrew Cuomo were on the campaign trail Thursday, as the Democrat announced a massive new anti-poverty program in Brooklyn. Democratic candidate Cynthia Nixon visited the Finger Lakes to voice her opposition to a controversial proposed liquefied natural gas plant on Seneca Lake. 

Two of New York Governor Andrew Cuomo’s political opponents were at an Earth Day rally on climate change attended by hundreds at the State Capitol in Albany Monday, where they said the Democrat’s energy policies are far from adequate.
