Connecticut River Walk and Bikeway

    The show will go on. But, for the first time in more than 25 years, fireworks will not be launched over the Connecticut River on the Fourth of July in downtown Springfield.

When winter finally begins to loosen its grip, people in Springfield, Massachusetts can venture outside for a little recreation along the banks of the Connecticut River.

Massachusetts is the only state in the nation with a statewide bike week.  Hundreds of events are taking place this week from the Berkshires to Cape Cod where bicycling is highlighted as an alternative form of transportation. 

Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick announced funding today for a massive transportation project in western Massachusetts.

   Governor Deval Patrick announced $200 million will be spent to replace deteriorating concrete decks on the elevated section of Interstate 91 in downtown Springfield while simultaneously studying the possibility of depressing a portion of the highway to street level or below.

   Patrick announced the project during a speech at a lunch hosted by the Affiliated Chambers of Commerce of Greater Springfield.

Officials in Springfield, Massachusetts plan to take steps to improve access to the city’s riverfront. The city recently settled a complaint that was filed almost 18 months ago with the Massachusetts Architectural Access Board , the agency that oversees access for the disabled to public places.
