Condoleezza Rice

The Greenwich Free Library and community co-sponsors will be having a special film screening of the PBS documentary "American Creed" in which former US Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice and Pulitzer-Prize winning historian David M. Kennedy come together from different points of view to investigate the idea of a unifying American Creed.

The screening will take place on Wednesday, October 2 at 6:30 p.m. at the Greenwich Central School High School Auditorium. Following the film, Joe Donahue will be leading a panel and community discussion. To talk more about the event and the documentary, we welcome library director, Annie Miller.

John Nixon, the former CIA analyst who conducted the first prolonged interrogation of Saddam Hussein after his capture by U.S. forces, speaks publicly for the first time about this historic episode in his new book: Debriefing the President: The Interrogation Of Saddam Hussein.

Nixon offers not only an intimate and personal portrait of the Iraqi dictator, but new revelations about what he learned from Saddam and in his subsequent briefings of President George W. Bush and top administration officials—including Vice President Dick Cheney, CIA Director George Tenet, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, and Secretary of Defense Robert Gates.

Nixon also provides fresh, deeply informed perspectives on why U.S. policies in Iraq and the broader Middle East have failed so badly, and why the CIA and other parts of our intelligence establishment urgently require major reform.

In baseball, the Detroit Tigers built a big lead and held on this time, beating the Boston Red Sox 7-3 last night to even the AL championship series. A revitalized Austin Jackson delivered in manager Jim Leyland's revamped lineup. Detroit scored five runs off Jake Peavy in the pivotal second inning after Dustin Pedroia fumbled away his opportunity at an inning-ending double play.

Elsewhere, it got a little tight at the finish, but the Los Angeles Dodgers will certainly take it as they stay alive in the NL championship series.
