  • In the 20 years since the global musical sensation’s debut, Celtic Woman has emerged as both a formidable musical presence and a genuine cultural phenomenon. Both an accomplished recording ensemble and a world-class performing collective, Celtic Woman introduces some of Ireland's most talented singers and musicians to the world stage. They will bring their 20th Anniversary Tour to The Palace in Albany, New York on 3/20.Mairéad Carlin joins us.

    “Sweat” playing at Capital Repertory Theater until March 31 is a production you don’t want to miss. It has a thoughtful story and strong actors who add emotion to a situation that is relatable to all.
  • Dr. Katie Takayasu is an Integrative Medicine physician, author, and speaker in the holistic health space, bridging the gap between traditional Western medicine and the evidenced-based complementary health tools of nutrition, acupuncture, meditation, botanicals and lifestyle optimization. She is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine at Columbia University/New York Presbyterian and teaches the next generation of doctors about healing the whole patient mind, body and spirit. Joe Donahue spoke with her at a CulinaryArts@SPAC event on March 25, 2023. Dr. Katie Takayasu’s book is “Plants First: A Physician’s Guide to Wellness Through a Plant-Forward Diet.”
  • This Saturday and Sunday, the Albany Symphony presents Vivaldi’s “The Four Seasons” - plus two brilliant recent works, “The History of Red” by Reena Esmail and “Murmurations” by Derek Bermel. Both concerts will be performed at the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall and will feature Baroque violin superstar soloists Ravenna Lipchik, Edson Scheid, Amelia Sie and Shelby Yamin.Music Director and conductor David Alan Miller joins us now along with two of the violinists Amelia Sie and Ravenna Lipchick.
  • Creative License has been the resident theater company at Cohoes Music Hall for the past three years. During this time they have offered challenging material that despite its high quality might, for lack of a better term, be regarded as non-commercial. But, bear in mind, non-commercial is high praise to many people.
  • The Triplex Cinema will present author and cultural critic Philip Gefter along with a screening of “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?” — Mike Nichol’s award-winning film based on Edward Albee’s play. Gefter will discuss his new book “Cocktails with George and Martha,” recently published to great acclaim by Bloomsbury Press, followed by a book-signing. Joining Gefter for conversation will be Lisa Schwarzbaum, former film critic of Entertainment Weekly Magazine.The event will take place at the Triplex at 3:00 pm on March 16.
  • Capital Region Language Center is the area's largest local world language instruction school. Over the past 20 years, the school has grown from two Spanish classes a week to a team of 30 teachers, providing instruction in 13 languages, including: American Sign Language (ASL); Arabic; Chinese; English; French; German; Japanese; Korean; Latin and Portuguese (both Brazilian and European) and Spanish. They also provide communication workshops for organizations and employers. CRLC will host a virtual information session on Wednesday, March 20 at 7 p.m.
  • During the course of his life, Malachy McCourt was a pioneer in talk radio, a soap opera star, a best-selling author; a political activist, and a candidate for governor of the state of New York. Born in Brooklyn in 1931, McCourt was raised in Limerick, Ireland, and returned to the United States in 1952. He died Monday at the age of 92.Malachy McCourt was a friend of the station - speaking with Joe Donahue often. He was last on The Roundtable in 2017 around the release of his book “Death Need Not Be Fatal.”We share a portion of that interview this morning in memoriam.
  • Kizzy Williams of Albany’s best comfort food restaurant, Allie B's Cozy Kitchen, is expanding her mission to bring fruits and vegetables to her neighborhood and the city at large.Kizzy Williams started Allie B’s Cozy Kitchen a decade ago. The new venture, Allie B’s Fresh Fruits and Vegetables, is located at 151 Clinton Avenue in Albany, New York. The produce market will offer a variety of fruits and vegetables for all cultures at reasonable prices.

  • Adventurous early music ensemble Ruckus, a shapeshifting group with a playful approach to classical music, brings its program, The Edinburgh Rollick: Music from the Niel Gow Collections, to the Clark Art Institute in Williamstown, Mass., tonight at 7pm. The concert explores the legacy of Niel Gow, eighteenth-century Scotland’s most celebrated fiddler. (Fri, Mar 8)
