  A new multi-media campaign was launched this week in western Massachusetts to highlight the fact that many people in the region face hunger on a daily basis.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo in his State of the State address earlier this month proposed a “No Student Goes Hungry” program. The five-point plan aims to combat hunger for students in kindergarten through college. WAMC’s Hudson Valley Bureau Chief Allison Dunne reports anti-hunger advocates are praising the governor’s effort.

New York has received an early holiday gift from its farmers: 9 million pounds of food donated to food banks around the state.

Community service organization Capital Roots announced the launch of the Greater Capital Region Food System Assessment Wednesday at its headquarters and regional food hub, the Urban Grow Center, in Troy.

A coalition of anti-hunger advocates, agricultural groups and environmental organizations are urging New York leaders to create a tax credit for farmers who donate fruits, vegetables and other products to foodbanks. 

        As the need for emergency food at pantries and meal sites in western Massachusetts continues to grow, a community forum on hunger is taking place this Saturday, October 29th.
