The New York Knicks have fired coach Derek Fisher midway through his second season. The Knicks made the decision after losing their fifth straight game on Sunday. They've dropped nine of 10 and fallen to 23-31, well back in the Eastern Conference playoff race. Fisher went 40-96. Associate head coach Kurt Rambis has been promoted to interim head coach.

NHL:

In the NHL, the Rangers edged New Jersey 2-1, Detroit blanked Florida 3-0, Ottawa bested Tampa Bay 5-1, and it was Pittsburgh over Anaheim 6-2.

NFL:

Buffalo Bills running back LeSean McCoy is under investigation in Philadelphia over the alleged assault of two off-duty police officers at a nightclub that left them both with injuries. Police say a fight broke out early Sunday over a bottle of champagne. They say four men punched, kicked and stomped an officer who was knocked to the ground. The second off-duty officer intervened with security guards. All were ejected from the club.

The agent for Seattle running back Marshawn Lynch has confirmed that his client intends to retire from football. Doug Hendrickson confirmed his client's plans to The Associated Press. Lynch had indicated as much Sunday night by tweeting a picture with a pair of cleats hanging from a power or telephone line, along with an emoji depicting a peace sign. Lynch, who turns 30 in April, won a Super Bowl with Seattle and played nine seasons in the NFL.

MLB:

The NL champion New York Mets have signed outfielder Roger Bernadina to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training. The 31-year-old Bernadina has played in parts of seven big league seasons, mostly for Washington. He spent last year in Triple-A with the Colorado system, hitting .276 with 15 home runs and 20 stolen bases.

Police say free agent outfielder Delmon Young was arrested after he choked and threatened a parking attendant at a Miami hotel Sunday night. Young, a 30-year-old who appeared in 52 games for the Baltimore Orioles last year, grabbed the attendant's neck and called him a "stupid Cuban," according to an arrest report. The attendant told police he had refused to let Young on an elevator to a club at the Viceroy Miami because the club was closed.

In college women's basketball, Number 1 UConn again proved who rules the women's game, running past Number 2 South Carolina 66-54 last night. Breanna Stewart had 25 points and 10 rebounds for UConn.

UAlbany won against Binghamton 64-58.

In college men's basketball, Saint Peter's ran out the clock on a 15-0 pace to defeat Quinnipiac 68-52 last night. Antwon Portley scored 25 points including four free throws at the end for Saint Peter's. Chaise Daniels scored 12 points, Giovanni McLean 11 and Daniel Harris 10 for Quinnipiac.
