The black device flew diagonally through the arena during the next-to-last game of a second-round match that 26th-seeded Flavia Pennetta of Italy won 6-1, 6-4 over Monica Niculescu of Romania. The PGA and Donald Trump agreed that it would move away from Trump's course after he received criticism for his remarks about Mexican immigrants while launching his candidacy for U.S. president.

The PGA had been looking for a replacement golf course with suitable dates but now says it will cancel the event because of the timing and logistics required to stage the exhibition at the "highest standards."

Formula One leader Lewis Hamilton is giving serious thought to the possibility of closed cockpits, in the wake of the recent death of IndyCar driver Justin Wilson. Wilson died a week and a half ago after being hit in the helmet by debris from another car. A professional hockey player faces sentencing for being part of an illegal sports betting business that took wagers from other players.

Nathan Paetsch is expected to receive eight months of home confinement, as well as community service and probation in federal court in Rochester Friday. The 32-year-old accepted a plea agreement in June which will also require him to forfeit $265,000.

Paetsch played the last three seasons in the American Hockey League. Before that, he spent part of five seasons with the National Hockey League's Buffalo Sabres, through 2010. Authorities say he was involved with a gambling operation that took bets through offshore websites, placing wagers himself and receiving credit when he recruited fellow players and others to bet.
