NHL:

In the NHL playoffs, Washington topped the Rangers 1-0 giving the Capitals a 2-1 series lead.

Lou Lamoriello is stepping down as the New Jersey Devils' general manager, and handing the job to Ray Shero. Lamoriello will stay on as president of hockey operations. He has led the Devils since 1987 and guided them to three Stanley Cups. Shero was let go as the Pittsburgh Penguins' general manager last May. He's the son of former Flyers and New York Rangers coach Fred Shero.

The Boston Bruins' Loui Eriksson and Torey Krug helped their respective teams win yesterday at the 2015 International Ice Hockey Federation Men's World Championship in the Czech Republic. Eriksson scored a hat trick in Sweden's 8-1 victory over Latvia, while Krug notched a goal in Team USA's 4-2 win over Russia.

NBA:

In the NBA playoffs, Chicago bested Cleveland 99-92 giving the Bulls the 1-0 series lead and it was the Clippers over Houston 117-101 for a 1-0 series lead.

Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen (STEH'-fehn) Curry has won the Maurice Podoloff (POH'-dah-lahf) Trophy as the NBA's Most Valuable Player. He received 100 of 130 first-place votes to outdistance runner-up James Harden of the Houston Rockets. Curry drained an NBA-record 286 3-pointers and averaged 23.8 points, 7.7 assists and 4.3 rebounds in helping the Warriors finish with a league-best 67 wins.

MLB:

In the American League, Toronto bested the Yankees 3-1, Tampa Bay topped Boston 5-1, Minnesota edged Oakland 8-7, Texas slid past Houston 2-1, and it was Seattle over the Angels 3-2.

Red Sox left fielder Hanley Ramirez left last night's game against Tampa Bay after running into a side wall while attempting a catch. Ramirez ran toward the corner to catch James Loney's slicing fly ball along the foul line. He had it in his glove before it popped out when his left shoulder hit the padded wall.

Major League Baseball has suspended Blue Jays hitting coach Brook Jacoby for 14 games for his postgame conduct toward umpires following an April 29th game at Boston. After Russell Martin was called out on strikes by Adrian Johnson for the final out of Toronto's 4-1 loss, members of the Blue Jays coaching staff traded words with the umpiring crew as they left the field.

In the National League, Philadelphia beat Atlanta 5-2, Washington won against Miami 6-4, Milwaukee slid past the Dodgers 4-3, St. Louis edged the Cubs 10-9, and it was San Francisco over San Diego 2-0. The Arizona at Colorado game was postponed due to rain.

The Mets plan to put catcher Johnny Monell on the major league roster before tonight's game against Baltimore. Monell is not on the 40-man roster, so the Mets will have to open a spot on it when they select his contract from Triple-A Las Vegas.

NFL:

The New York Jets have fired director of pro personnel Brendan Prophett and five members of the scouting department. Prophett was starting his 16th season with the team, and ninth as the Jets' director of pro personnel. New general manager Mike Maccagnan has also parted ways with college scouts Rick Courtright, David Hinson, Cole Hufnagel, Chris Prescott and Seth Turner.

The Oakland Raiders are planning to release two starters from last year's team, cutting ties with receiver James Jones and linebacker Miles Burris. The decision comes after Oakland used its first-round pick on receiver Amari Cooper and later drafted linebackers Ben Heeney of Kansas and Neiron Bell of Florida in the fifth round.

Wrestling:

The Cuban national wrestling team will face off against the U.S. in an exhibition in New York's Times Square later this month. Team USA tells The Associated Press that the Cubans will wrestle in New York City on May 21st for the first time since the 2003 world championships. The dual meet has been billed "Salsa in the Square" and will feature matches in men's and women's freestyle and the Greco-Roman discipline.

Maine Hall Of Fame:

An Olympic gold medalist and a 17-year veteran of the NHL were among nine people inducted into the Maine Sports Hall of Fame. The inductees honored on Sunday at a banquet in Augusta included Anna Goodale and Eric Weinrich. Goodale won Olympic gold in 2008 with the women's eight rowing team in Beijing. Weinrich played hockey at the University of Maine and 17 years in the National Hockey League.
