NCAA:
In men’s basketball in the MAAC Tournament, No. 8 Siena beat No. 9 Niagara 71-54, No. 7 Saint Peter's bested No. 10 Fairfield 63-33, and it was No. 11 Marist over No. 6 Quinnipiac 80-74. The quarterfinals start on Saturday.
On Sunday in the America East Tournament, No. 1 Albany will take on No. 4 New Hampshire and No. 2 Vermont will see No. 3 Stony Brook.

NFL:
Oakland Raiders running back Maurice Jones-Drew announced his retirement and defensive end LaMarr Woodley was released by the team. Jones-Drew was paid $2.5 million last season but only rushed for 96 yards on 43 carries in 12 games.
Vince Wilfork says the Patriots have told him they won't pick up his option. The formidable defense tackle has spent his entire 11-year career with New England, helping to win two Super Bowls.
NBA:
In the NBA, the Chicago Bulls were able to end Russell Westbrook's string of triple-doubles at four straight games. More important, they pulled out a victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder, 108-105. It was Portland over Dallas 94-75.
NHL:
Over on the ice, Calgary edged Boston in a shootout 4-3, the Islanders topped Nashville 4-3, Dallas bested Florida 4-3, Philadelphia won against St. Louis 3-1, Tampa Bay doubled up Toronto 4-2, Arizona skated by Vancouver in a shootout 3-2, Los Angeles beat Montreal in a shootout 4-3, and it was Minnesota over Washington 2-1.
MLB:
In baseball spring training, the Yankees beat Pittsburgh 2-1, Minnesota edged Boston 9-8, Houston doubled up Philadelphia 6-3, and Washington defeated the Mets 5-4.
Elsewhere Atlanta beat Detroit 6-4, Baltimore edged Tampa Bay 3-2, St. Louis bestted Miami 4-1, San Francisco topped the Cubs 8-6, Oakland then tied the Cubs 2-2, Cleveland tripled up Cinciannti 9-3, the Dodgers beat the White Sox 6-1, Seattle bested San Diego 9-4, Arizona slid past Colorado 4-3, the Angels won against Milwaukee 3-2, and Baltimore blanked Toronto 5-0.
Golf:
J.B. Holmes tamed the Blue Monster course at Doral with a 10-under 62. That's good for a four-shot lead after the first round of the Cadillac Championship. Ryan Moore is alone in second.
The top 50 golfers in the world are entered in a tournament for the first time since the 2012 PGA Championship.
France's Alexander Levy shot a 4-under 68 and is tied with Rickie Fowler and Dustin Johnson for third place.
This is the first of the World Golf Championship tournaments of the year.
PGA Tour rookie Mark Hubbard is the leader through one round of the PGA's Puerto Rico Open in Rio Grande. Hubbard opened with a 4-under 68 that puts him one stroke ahead of Billy Mayfair, Chris Smith and Emiliano Grillo. David Duval, Jonathan Byrd, J.J. Henry and Alex Cejka (CHAY'-kah) are among 11 players at minus-2.
Inbee Park and Yani Tseng both shot 6-under 66 to share the lead after the opening round of the HSBC Women's Champions. Angela Stanford trails by a shot with No. 1-ranked Lydia Ko in a group that is two strokes back. The 17-year-old Ko went into the event on a two-tournament winning streak.
U.S. Swimming:
There have been discussions about US swimmer Michael Phelps possibly competing in the world championships to be held in Russia starting in late July. However, a USA Swimming spokesman has characterized any conversations as informal and preliminary.
Phelps received a six-month suspension for his second drunken driving arrest, a punishment that ends April 6. He had already qualified for worlds, the biggest international meet leading up to next year's Rio Olympics.
The 18-time Olympic champion agreed he would not represent the U.S. at the world meet as part of his suspension by USA Swimming handed down last fall.
Tennis:
Third-ranked Andy Murray takes on Donald Young in the opening singles Friday when Britain hosts the United States in the first round of the Davis Cup.
Murray will be making his first appearance in his native Scotland since he won Wimbledon in 2013.
20th-ranked John Isner will play England's James Ward in the second match. The draw for Saturday's doubles has the top-ranked American pair of brothers Bob and Mike Bryan facing Murray's brother, Jamie, and Dominic Inglot.
