In the NBA, Cleveland topped Boston 110-79, Sacramento crushed New York 124-86, Charlotte edged the Lakers 104-103, Atlanta won against Houston 104-96, Utah beat Memphis 93-82, Chicago defeated Washington 97-92, and it was Denver over Milwaukee 106-95.

The NBA has fined the New York Knicks for Phil Jackson's comments about Ohio State freshman D'Angelo Russell.

Jackson watched the Buckeyes' 81-57 victory over Nebraska last Thursday and afterward told Cleveland.com that Russell was a "great-looking kid" and a "great prospect."

NBA spokesman Tim Frank confirmed the fine Tuesday night but did not disclose the amount.

Team personnel are prohibited from publicly discussing players who aren't yet eligible for the NBA draft.

The Denver Nuggets have fired coach Brian Shaw after 1½ seasons and replaced him with assistant coach Melvin Hunt on an interim basis. Shaw went 56-85 after replacing George Karl, who was ousted after Denver won a franchise-record 57 games in 2012-13.

NHL:

Over on the ice, Dallas topped the Islanders in overtime 3-2, Calgary beat Philadelphia in overtime 3-2, New Jersey won against Nashville 3-1, Tampa Bay blanked Buffalo 3-0, Toronto skated by Florida 3-2, Washington beat Columbus 5-3, Anaheim beat Arizona 4-1, San Jose tripled up Vancouver 6-2, Minnesota edged Ottawa in a shootout 3-2, and it was Los Angeles over Edmonton 5-2.

NCAA:

Tonight is the start of the America East Tournament. UAlbany will see Maine, Vermont will see UMBC, Hartford at New Hampshire, and Stony Brook vs. Binghamton, all at 7 p.m.

Thursday marks the start of the MAAC tournament at The Times Union Center in Albany. Siena College is slated to start against Niagara at 5 p.m.

MLB:

In baseball spring training, the Yankees tied Philadelphia 5-5, Detroit blew out Baltimore 15-2, Pittsburgh won against Toronto 8-7, Cincinnati blanked Cleveland 10-0, and it was Oakland over San Francisco 9-4.

Elsewhere Clay Buchholz started with one perfect inning and Boston Red Sox pitchers dominated the rest of the day in sweeping a pair of college teams, beating Northeastern 2-1 and edging Boston College 1-0 yesterday.

The New York Yankees say they've fired a part-time ticker seller accused by Curt Schilling of making offensive comments on Twitter about the daughter of the former Boston pitcher. Schilling congratulated his daughter on Twitter last week after she was accepted into Salve Regina University, where she will play softball next year. Multiple people posted vulgar and sexually explicit comments about the girl.

The new owners of the Pawtucket Red Sox face a possible roadblock in their plan to build a new stadium for the Triple-A franchise in Providence, Rhode Island. The Providence Journal reports the 4.8-acre plot along the Providence River mentioned as a possible site for the new ballpark is designated for use as a public park.

NFL:

A person familiar with the deal says the Philadelphia Eagles have agreed to trade star running back LeSean McCoy for Buffalo Bills linebacker Kiko Alonso.

The person spoke under condition of anonymity Tuesday night because the teams had not announced the deal.

ESPN first reported the trade.

McCoy had an inconsistent season last year after leading the NFL with 1,607 yards rushing in 2013.

Incoming Bills coach Rex Ryan has said he wants his offense to rely heavily on a running attack. Buffalo is expected to lose C.J. Spiller to free agency next week.
