NFL:
The NFL says former FBI director Robert Mueller III will conduct a probe into how the NFL handled evidence as it investigated domestic violence claims against former Ravens running back Ray Rice. An NFL spokesman says the investigation will be overseen by NFL owners John Mara of the New York Giants and Art Rooney of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
A law enforcement official says he sent a video of former Ravens Ray Rice punching his then-fiancee to an NFL executive five months ago. The person played The Associated Press a 12-second voicemail from an NFL office number on April 9 confirming the video arrived and a female voice expresses thanks and says: "You're right. It's terrible."
The National Organization for Women has called for NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell (guh-DEHL') to resign in the wake of the Ray Rice domestic violence incident, saying the league has "a violence-against-women" problem.
On the field later tonight, Pittsburgh will be in Baltimore to take on the Ravens in Thursday Night Football. The game starts at 8:25.
MLB:
In Major League Baseball, in the American League, the Yankees beat Tampa Bay 8-5, Baltimore topped Boston 10-6 for a three-game sweep, Houston defeated Seattle 5-2, Kansas City blanked Detroit 3-0 to regain its one game lead in the AL Central, the Angels bested Texas 8-1, and the White Sox edged Oakland 2-1. The Minnesota at Cleveland game was postponed due to rain.
In National League, the Mets blanked Colorado 2-0, Pittsburgh doubled up Philadelphia 6-3, Atlanta defeated Washington 6-2, Cincinnati won against St. Louis 4-2, Milwaukee bested Miami 4-1, the Dodgers shut out San Diego 4-0, and it was San Francisco over Arizona 5-0.
In interleague play, Toronto blew out the Cubs 11-1 completing a three-game sweep.
