Women in Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics in the U.S. vs. Europe
Albany, NY – The American Association of University Women has published a paper called, 'Shortchanging Girls, Shortchanging America: A Call To Action.' It shows that a 'girls' self-esteem, confidence in their abilities, expectations for life, interest in challenging courses and rewarding careers, and pursuits in math and science decline as they get older.' Further studies argue that teachers and parents can also contribute to the problem by giving less attention, or lower-quality attention to young women students. This begins our first in a series of stories that highlight people and programs that are working to turn these findings around and lead more women into future careers in science, technology, engineering and math.
