The harsh winter has strained Rutland's winter road maintenance budget and that means there isn't going to be as much money for spring paving in the Vermont city.
Public Works Commissioner Jeffrey Wennberg says the $100,000 overspent on the winter maintenance budget was about 20 percent over the $500,000 budget.
Wennberg tells the Rutland Herald the many small storms at the beginning of the season strained the salt budget, while the bigger storms later in the year strained the overtime budget.
As a result Wennberg says he's going to cut $73,000 in paving, equivalent to about a half a mile of city streets.
He's also going to forgo about $20,000 in equipment purchases and about $7,000 from traffic safety.
