Ambulance services in Williamstown and adjacent North Adams, Massachusetts plan to merge.
The Village Ambulance Service in Williamstown has fallen on tough economic times, like many small EMS providers. At the recommendation of a working group and consultant, the ambulance service, which covers Williamstown, Hancock and New Ashford, will merge with North Adams Ambulance.
They will employ 90 once the two combine.
The companies say the agreement will provide financial stability and sustainability.
North Adams Ambulance covers the city, and nearby Clarksburg, Florida, Monroe, and Rowe, as well as Stamford and Readsboro, Vermont.
Proponents say it’s the latest step in establishing a regional ambulance service for northern Berkshire County.
