A western Massachusetts lawmaker says Governor Charlie Baker sent the wrong message during his State of the Commonwealth address Thursday when he reassured some taxpayers about the fiscal oversight of the MBTA.The Republican governor says the taxpayers who spend $1 billion to fund the T but don’t ride it deserve to know they support a reliable and transparent service. That doesn’t sit well with Democratic Representative Smitty Pignatelli of Lenox.
“I think it’s time for the T riders, the city of Boston and the catchment area of the MBTA to step up to the plate and pay a little bit more of their fair share much like we have to pay for our fair share out here,” said Pigantelli.
After service failures last winter, a management board was implemented to oversee the MBTA.
