West Nile has been found in mosquitoes in Richmond, Massachusetts.

The Berkshire County Mosquito Control Project has found one positive sample of West Nile virus near Swamp Road in Richmond.

Since 2011, there have been 58 cases of West Nile in mosquitoes and one human case in Berkshire County. Last year, there were fewer mosquitoes due to a statewide drought – Out of the 136 samples collected in 2016, one contained the West Nile virus.

West Nile is occurs most frequently in August. Stagnant water is a breeding ground for mosquitoes.
