Waste Dumping Investigated In NY Town With Tainted Water

PFOA formula

New York's Department of Environmental Conservation is investigating possible illegal dumping of commercial waste material in a town that's already the focus of a water contamination probe.

The agency confirmed Friday that DEC police are searching woods near the main route through Hoosick Falls, near the Vermont border, after a "concerned citizen" reported dumping of waste containing PFOA, a chemical used in making Teflon and other nonstick and stain-resistant products.

The tip came as DEC and the U.S. EPA investigate PFOA contamination of the public water supply in Hoosick Falls.
