The executive director of a Boys & Girls Club in Burlington says children as young as 13 in her region have been facing drug pedaling and solicitation.

Mary Alice McKenzie says teens told her organization they were offered money to sell or carry drugs and some say they were offered money for sex with drug dealers.

She was testifying Monday at U.S. Senator Patrick Leahy's Senate Judiciary Committee field hearing in Rutland about the fight against heroin and opioid addiction in the state.

Witnesses included the U.S. attorney for Vermont, the Rutland police chief, the Vermont health commissioner and the director of the Vermont State Police.

Remarks from other witnesses included descriptions about health and law enforcement efforts to combat addiction.
