VFW Post Closed In Vermont City

State VFW officials won't say why, but the group's post in Rutland is closed and on suspension for 90 days.

The Rutland Herald reports there is a sign on the door that says Post 648 is closed "until further notice."

Russell Bibens, commander of the state VFW, said Thursday the post is on suspension for 90 days. He said the issue is "not for public dissemination."

The closing has even members of Post 648 perplexed. Louisa Clarino, a member of the post's auxiliary, said Thursday she had heard nothing from the organization. She said the VFW's statewide convention is scheduled to take place June 7-9 in Rutland, and that the local post building typically figures into the event.

The post's tax forms indicate a decline in net revenue.
