Vermont Congressman Peter Welch will visit with state and local officials in Southern Vermont Monday to receive an update on the chemical contamination of private wells.
Congressman Welch is scheduled to meet with officials from the Vermont Health Department in Bennington and then will meet with the North Bennington Board of Trustees to gather information on the PFOA contamination that has been found in several private wells.
The chemical contaminant, commonly used in making insulating and non-stick materials, has been linked to the former Chemfab Plant in North Bennington.
Meanwhile, testing for PFOA continues in Pownal within a 1-mile radius of the former Warren Wire plant, though officials do not believe the contamination is widespread.
An informational meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. at American Legion Hall in Pownal.
