Vermont Gubernatorial Debate Cancelled

In the wake of a crash on Interstate 89 in which a wrong-way driver killed five high school students this weekend, a debate between Vermont’s gubernatorial candidates has been canceled.  The candidates and the current governor will attend a vigil this evening.

The Vermont chapter of the AARP announced late Monday morning that due to the tragedy that killed five teenagers from the Waterbury area, the gubernatorial debate between Democrat Sue Minter and Republican Phil Scott planned for tonight in South Burlington has been cancelled.

The candidates instead will attend a vigil at the Harwood Union High School this evening.

Governor Peter Shumlin also plans to be at the vigil, which begins at 6 p.m.

Police continue to investigate the crash.
