Vermont City Joins Lawsuit Against Air Force

U.S. Air Force

The city of Winooski, Vermont, is joining a lawsuit seeking to overturn a decision allowing the U.S. Air Force's F-35 fighter jets in South Burlington, saying that not enough was done to analyze noise levels.

The city plans to retain its own lawyer in the suit, filed in 2014, which says the Air Force underestimated the jets' level of noise as well as health and property value concerns.

The Burlington Free Press reports the City Council approved a capped expenditure of $7,500 for the suit. Extra funds would be brought back before the public for discussion.

The city joins the Stop the F-35 Coalition and six Chittenden County residents as plaintiffs.

The Air Force didn't immediately return messages seeking comment. A Vermont Air National Guard spokesman was reviewing the meeting.
