Vermont AG Won't Prosecute Trooper In Shooting

The Vermont Attorney General's office says it will not prosecute a state trooper who shot and wounded a suspect who had fired multiple times at police earlier this year.

The attorney general's office says it cannot comment on the specific finding of its review of the shooting by Trooper Raymond Witkowski on Jan. 7 in Arlington until the charges against the man who was shot are resolved.

Shortly after the incident, police said the man who was shot, Matthew Novick, allegedly fired a semi-automatic rifle at troopers before he was wounded. Novick, who was hospitalized after the shooting, is facing charges that include attempted first-degree murder.
