The Vermont Public Service Board has ordered Green Mountain Power to pay to continuously monitor turbine noise at the Lowell wind project as part of a penalty for noise violations last year.
The Caledonian Record reports the monitoring is expected to cost the utility at least $109,000.
The state had been in talks with Green Mountain Power and opponents over how to continuously monitor sounds from some of the 21 turbines. It had been difficult for the parties to agree on a monitoring method and a company to do it.
The board says the Department of Public Service, acting as consumer advocate, will conduct the monitoring and then bill the utility.
GMP accepted the decision. Spokeswoman Dorothy Schnure said it has supported continuous monitoring.
