Upstate NY Man Gets 5-15 Years For Double Fatal

A 23-year-old upstate New York man who pleaded guilty in connection with a highway crash that killed two Albany-area high school students has been sentenced to five to 15 years in prison.

Dennis Drue, who had remained free since his arrest, apologized to each family at his sentencing Thursday in Saratoga County Courthouse.

State police investigators say Drue rear-ended a Ford Explorer driven by 17-year-old Chris Stewart on the Adirondack Northway last December, causing the vehicle to roll several times. Stewart and 17-year-old Deanna Rivers were killed.

Two other high school students were severely injured.

Drue pleaded guilty in September to all 58 counts against him, including manslaughter and driving while intoxicated. Had he gone to trial and been convicted, he risked up to 25 years behind bars.
