More than 200 new transit vehicles are coming to upstate New York.

The state announced the new transit investments Thursday. Nearly $60 million in state and federal funds will go toward the purchase of the new vehicles, along with new and improved transit shelters, vehicle repair facilities and other transit-related expenses. Gov. Andrew Cuomo says "strong and reliable" public transportation is critical to growth in every part of the state.

Fifty-one different transit agencies will receive a portion of the money. Together they serve more than 5 million passengers around the state each year.
