A Vermont State Police sergeant whose social media postings allegedly supporting last week’s siege on the U.S. Capitol were under investigation has resigned.

Public Safety Commissioner Michael Schirling says Sergeant Lucas Hall resigned unconditionally Tuesday night, before the investigation was complete.

The State Police say they learned January 7 that Hall, based in the Shaftsbury barracks, had made social media posts supportive of the insurgency.

A  post made after the riots in the name of Luke Hall said: “God Bless America!!!! Cheers to the great Patriots in Washington DC. The time has come … Let’s gooooo!!!””

Hall had been suspended without pay during the investigation. Schirling says the posts “are in no way reflective of the beliefs and values of the Vermont State Police.”
