UMass Researcher To Study Opioid Addiction Treatments At Two Jails

   A researcher at the University of Massachusetts Amherst has secured a $1.5 million federal grant to implement and study opioid treatment programs in two county jails in western Massachusetts.

    The three-year project aims to deliver medications to about 500 people while they are in custody at jails in Franklin and Hampshire counties and follow up on their treatment after release.

    WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill spoke with Elizabeth Evans, assistant professor in the university’s School of Public Health and Health Sciences
