The Pittsfield Fire Department says it responded to two unrelated fires in a 12-hour window between Thursday night and Friday morning.

Deputy chief Dan Garner told WAMC Friday that there was no connection between the fires.

“First fire was 8 o’clock last night at 38 Grove Street," said the deputy chief. "It was a kitchen fire. It was knocked down relatively quick. No injuries reported – civilian or fire injuries. The occupants were displaced and Red Cross assisted them. There was another fire this morning at 73 McArthur Street. That was an attic fire. It was a pretty well involved attic fire that’s been ruled accidental causes.”

The two occupants of that building were also displaced, but the fire department says they found new lodging.

Josh Landes has been WAMC's Berkshire Bureau Chief since February 2018, following stints at WBGO Newark and WFMU East Orange. A passionate advocate for Western Massachusetts, Landes was raised in Pittsfield and attended Hampshire College in Amherst, receiving his bachelor's in Ethnomusicology and Radio Production. His free time is spent with his cat Harry, experimental electronic music, and exploring the woods.
