Troy Councilors To Review Confidential Report On Thevenin Death

Troy city councilors are expected to review reports regarding a fatal police shooting in 2016.

An internal police department report claims Troy Sergeant Randall French acted improperly and lied about his actions that led to the death of Edson Thevenin after he fled a traffic stop. Unbeknownst to the city council, Democratic Troy Mayor Patrick Madden’s administration then commissioned a report that disputes those findings. Republican City Council President Carmella Mantello says councilors will review the documents during an executive session on Wednesday.

“We obviously being the representatives of the people, we need to know the information and the facts that are happening, and to, you know, to be kept in the dark is just unacceptable.”

Sergeant French has not been charged in the shooting.

In 2012, Dave received a Communicator Award of Distinction for his WAMC news story "Fail: The NYS Flood Panel," which explores whether the damage from Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee could have been prevented or at least curbed. Dave began his radio career as a “morning personality” at WABY in Albany.
