With a statewide vote on transgender rights days away, a transgender solidarity rally is set for Pittsfield, Massachusetts Saturday.
Indivisible Pittsfield — an organization that purports to “resist the Trump agenda with actions” — is calling on the transgender community and its allies to gather in downtown Pittsfield. Drew Herzig is a co-chair of the group, and is the chair of the city’s Human Rights Commission. He says the rally is in response to a leaked memo from the Trump Administration that would narrowly define gender.
“It basically would say that transgender people do not exist, and that should ring alarm bells for everybody.”
Locally, Massachusetts ballot question three will ask voters to decide on a repeal of 2016 legislation that prohibits discrimination against transgender people in the commonwealth.
The rally is set for noon at Park Square.
