Tops Set To Purchase Supermarkets In The Hudson Valley

An Erie County, New York-based grocery retailer is acquiring a few Hannaford and Stop & Shop supermarkets in the Hudson Valley along with a Stop & Shop in Massachusetts.

Tops Friendly Markets announced July 13 that the company has entered into agreements with Stop & Shop and Hannaford to acquire six supermarkets, one in Gardner, Massachusetts, and the remaining five in the Hudson Valley. Hannafords in Carmel and LaGrangeville are on the path to Tops ownership as are Stop & Shops in New Paltz, Rhinebeck and Wappingers Falls. There are more than 750 associates employed at these locations combined, and Tops will offer all associates continued employment. Tops has supermarkets in upstate New York, northern Pennsylvania and western Vermont.
