Three Pittsfield, Massachusetts city councilors are endorsing Holyoke Mayor Alex Morse in his bid to unseat Congressman Richard Neal.
Three newcomers to public office in Berkshire County’s largest city, name the three here, are backing the self-described progressive candidate in the Democratic primary for the state’s 1st Congressional district seat. Ward 5 councilor Patrick Kavey says Morse better represents Western Massachusetts.
“He’s gotten significantly more donations from people in our district, and roughly 90% of his contributions have been under $200 – when our current congressman gets the majority of his contributions from large PACs and the Washington, D.C. area,” said Kavey.
In Congress since 1989, Neal chairs the powerful Ways & Means committee. The former Springfield mayor cruised to victory in the 2018 Democratic primary with 70% of the vote.
