Three Mayoral Candidates To Face Off In North Adams Primary

Successful filings of nomination papers by three candidates have triggered a preliminary election in North Adams’ mayoral race.John Barrett, mayor from 1984 until 2009, joins artist and real estate developer Eric Rudd in challenging Mayor Richard Alcombright’s bid for a fourth two-year term. Alcombright’s 2009 election ended Barrett’s 26-year run.

“I ran back then because I did have some issues with the fiscal issues that were going on at the time,” Alcombright said. “I ran because I just didn’t see government as transparent as I would like to see it.”

The preliminary election, meant to dwindle the race to two candidates, is Sept. 22nd. Richard David Greene and Nik Lareau did not return nominating papers with the necessary 50 signatures by the August 20th deadline.
