Three Die In A Truck/Car Crash On I-84

Police say two women and a 9-year-old girl have died after a tractor-trailer slammed into a car that had run out of gas on Interstate 84 in Orange County.

State police Capt. Brendan Casey says a 911 operator who was talking to the car’s driver heard the crash at 3:40 Wednesday afternoon in the town of Wawayanda. Killed were the driver, 29-year-old Jesenia Valentin of Bridgeport, Connecticut, her daughter, and a woman passenger whose name was not released. Two dogs in the car also died. Casey said Valentin's Volkswagen Passat was stopped in the right-hand driving lane with its flashers on when it was struck by a Freightliner tractor-trailer driven by 52-year-old Gino Ruggiero of Sugar Loaf, Pennsylvania. He was not injured.
