The celebratory opening of a New York congressional office gets underway Saturday. It is reportedly the first such congressional office in the City of Newburgh.

Democratic Representative Sean Patrick Maloney will be on hand for the grand opening of his district office in Newburgh from noon till 1. His spokeswoman says based upon conversations with local elected officials, and former City of Newburgh Mayor Nick Valentine, a lifelong resident, there has never been a state or federal district office in the city. Democratic State Assemblyman Frank Skartados has an office in the Town of Newburgh. And former Republican State Assemblyman Thomas Kirwan, though a lifelong City of Newburgh resident, had a district office in the Town of Newburgh. He died in 2011. Maloney has said he hopes the presence of his office will entice more businesses to the city.  His district office is on the second floor of the Old Newburgh Courthouse at 123 Grand Street.
