Black Friday is gradually turning into Black Thursday as more and more retail establishments are jumping the gun to capture more of the holiday shoppers.

After Thanksgiving dinner and dessert, many people ran out to the stores to celebrate the unofficial start of the holiday season with sales offered by stores that opened Thursday evening instead of predawn Friday.

Mall parking lots at the likes of Best Buy and Target were overflowing by 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

Orange County Executive Steven Neuhaus stopped by HONOR – Helping Others Needing Our Resources – in Middletown to thank the volunteers for helping those in need on turkey day.For those less fortunate and those who had no family or friends with which to share a turkey dinner, many community organizations opened their doors and welcomed them with a holiday meal.

HONOR provides individualized and integrated services to people who may be combating chemical dependency in need of transitional housing, or requiring crisis intervention.

“Many of our neighbors need our help, especially during this time of year,” Neuhaus said. “There are so many ways to be of help.”
