New York Governor Andrew Cuomo Wednesday announced the reopening of the historic Beaverkill Covered Bridge in Sullivan County after a $2.6 million rehabilitation project.

The bridge over a renowned fly fishing stream is on Campsite Road in the town of Rockland. Repairs began in 2015 to the one-lane bridge that links the main Beaverkill campsite to a shower area and picnic space. As part of the project, a walkway underneath the bridge was widened. The bridge will no longer close during winter months. The Beaverkill Covered Bridge was built in 1865 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
