The Strand Prints Unpublished Chandler Sketch

It’s probably hard to overstate the influence author Raymond Chandler had on all of the detective fiction to follow, and that extends to The Strand magazine, which has printed “It’s All Right—He Only Died,” a previously unpublished Chandler short story in its latest issue. The sketch is an indictment of the American health care system and its emphasis on money. It was written in the 1950s. Joining us to discuss this discovery, as he does from time to time, is Andrew Gulli, the editor and publisher of The Strand.

A lifelong resident of the Capital Region, Ian joined WAMC in late 2008 and became news director in 2013. He began working on Morning Edition and has produced The Capitol Connection, Congressional Corner, and several other WAMC programs. Ian can also be heard as the host of the WAMC News Podcast and on The Roundtable and various newscasts. Ian holds a BA in English and journalism and an MA in English, both from the University at Albany, where he has taught journalism since 2013.
