State Police To Aid Planned Parenthood Safety Training

New York state troopers are advising Planned Parenthood clinics statewide on security and emergency planning in the wake of Friday's deadly attack at a clinic in Colorado.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo says state police will begin visits and discussions Monday with Planned Parenthood's more than 60 clinics and locations statewide.

Troopers already have increased patrols at the locations, as have local police in New York City and elsewhere. The organization is headquartered in New York and Washington.

Authorities haven't disclosed the gunman's motive in attacking a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado Springs, although Mayor John Suthers said people can draw inferences from the location. Suspect Robert Lewis Dear was arrested.

Whatever the motive, Planned Parenthood Advocates of New York State President Lauren Tobias says the violence "underscores the need for vigilance."
